Senator Win Gatchalian on Friday calls for teacher consultations before implementing revised K to 10 curriculum.
"Iminumungkahi ko na magsagawa tayo ng on-the-ground simulations at mga konsultasyon upang sumangguni sa ating mga guro, lalo na't sila ang ating mga sundalo sa mga paaralan at sila ang magpapatupad sa curriculum," the lawmaker pointed out.
Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte's presentation on the Basic Education Report 2023 highlights the congestion issues in the K to 12 curriculum, which experts argue hinder students' mastery of essential competencies.
Despite the ongoing curriculum review, Gatchalian persists with the Senate review of the K to 12 program through Proposed Senate Resolution No. 5.
The review has already conducted four hearings on the implementation of the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) and will also assess the spiral progression approach mandated by the law.
Education Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas earlier revealed that the Department of Education (DepEd) is finalizing the revised K to 10 curriculum, with a draft version released for public feedback.
The curriculum guide, which will incorporate the public's comments and policy guidelines for its implementation, are being prepared for a targeted 2025 rollout.
