Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 5 has been hoisted over the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Island) as Super Typhoon Egay maintains its strength and is expected to make landfall or pass very close to the Babuyan Islands-northeastern mainland Cagayan area between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, PAGASA said Tuesday.

In its latest bulletin, the state weather bureau raised the following Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) in several areas in the country:

Signal No. 5

  • The eastern portion of Babuyan Islands (Camiguin Island)

Signal No. 4

  • The northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana and Gonzaga)
  • The rest of Babuyan Island

According to PAGASA, Egay may make landfall or pass very close to the Babuyan Islands-northeastern mainland Cagayan area between late Thursday evening and Wednesday morning. Due to a slight northward or southward shift in this segment of the track, Egay may also make landfall or close approach over northern mainland Cagayan or Batanes.

As of 1 PM, the center of Super Typhoon Egay was last seen at 230 km East Northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, or 240 km East of Aparri, Cagayan with a maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center, with gustiness of up to 230 km/h, and central pressure of 925 hPa.

It was moving northwestward at 20 km/h.

It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning, according to PAGASA.
