Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, is expected to arrive in the Philippines today, April 21, for his two-day state visit.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, April 20, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said it was President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. who formally invited Al Thani to the country.
PCO said the two leaders are scheduled to meet and discuss "regional issues" and "bilateral relations which now covers cooperation in the areas of labor, climate change, trade and investments, energy security, education, youth, and sports, among others."
"The last State Visit of a Qatar Amir to the Philippines was in 2012," the communications office noted.
Al Thani will conclude his state visit on Monday, April 22.
After the Philippines, Al Thani will be flying to the People's Republic of Bangladesh and then Nepal, as per Qatar News Agency.
