Several students fell ill and dizzy after they were exposed to a color smoke bomb in Bacolod City on Monday, May 29.
In an interview on Wednesday, Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Dr. Anna Maria Laarni Pornan said that out of 22 students who fainted, six were brought to the hospital for observation and one was admitted overnight.
As of now, Pornan said all the students have been discharged and are continually being monitored by the city health department.
Aside from the students, two security guards of the school also experienced dizziness after being exposed to the color smoke bomb, she added.
Based on reports, the students of Bacolod City College (BCC) used the color smoke bomb during their final examination activity for their Physical Education class on Monday.
The activity was held in a closed venue instead of open-air areas, which, according to Pornan, could have contributed to the discomfort of the students.
A sample of the color smoke bomb was provided to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for examination, she said.
