'Serbisyo muna bago politika’
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. clarified on Saturday that his meeting with former Vice President, now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, was focused on public service, not politics.
“I think Mayor [Leni] will agree with me that service comes before politics. The most political thing I did today, I wore my pink socks…in honor of Mayor Leni,” the President said.
The visit centered on plans to address flooding in the city. “We have been planning this for a few months already because talagang naging critical ito [creek] especially with the storms,” he added.
During the meeting, Mayor Robredo showed President Marcos the Sagop Creek, a key drainage channel serving 27 barangays in Naga City.
The creek has been a frequent source of flooding during heavy rains, prompting local authorities to prioritize rehabilitation and improvement projects.
Previously, the former vice president has been a topic of widespread discussion among citizens and netizens, sparking speculation about a possible run for the 2028 elections, particularly after incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte formally announced her intention to run for president.
‘Focus tayo sa trabaho’
On Saturday, Mayor Robredo reiterated that she has not yet opened discussions about a potential presidential bid in 2028.
“Ako, hindi ko kino-consider pag-usapan ’yung politika this early kasi ang dami ko pang trabahong gagawin... At gaya sa akin, kauupo ko lang bilang mayor, ’di pa nga one year. Para pag-usapan ’yung 2028, parang disservice naman ’yon sa mga tao,” she said.
Robredo emphasized that her attention remains on her current responsibilities as Naga City mayor.
