A 60-year old man perished after fire razed a residential area on Friday, July 26, in Brgy. Tumana, Marikina City.

Chirs Garcia, the son of the victim, shared that his father woke him, and alerted him of the fire, which started at around 2:50AM.

"Nung umapoy na, natutulog pa kami sa taas. Yung tatay ko ginising kami. Tapos nung sinabi na may sunog, bumababa na kami," Garcia told DZRH.

The father returned to their home in order to get some papers and cash while Chris, who suffered second degree burns in his face and in his back, tried to help put out the fire.

"Wala kaming magamit na timba kasi nag-evacuate kami dahil sa baha," Garcia said.

The fire reached up to first alarm before responders managed to put out the blaze at 3:55AM

Fire responders recovered the body of the senior from the remains of their house past 9:00AM.

Authorities suspect that the fire started from a burning candle since the residents have no electricity due to the effects of the southwest monsoon of Super Typhoon Carina.
