A senior citizen was arrested after trying to bring a gun inside the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) station in Cubao, Quezon City, on Thursday night, September 14.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD)-Cubao Police Station (PS 7) chief PLTCOL Mark Janis Ballesteros identified the arrested suspect as Rene Legaspi Antipona, 60, of Purok 8, Brgy. San Juan, Cabanatuan, Quezon City.
Based on the report, the suspect was arrested at the Araneta Cubao Station of the MRT-3 at around 9:15 a.m.
The suspect was said to have entered the station to board the train, but when he went through the x-ray machine, it was determined that there was a metal object inside his bag, causing the guard to search him.
The guard opened the suspect's bag and discovered the gun hidden inside an eyeglass case.
When asked for the relevant documents for the gun and its ammunition, the suspect could not present any, causing the police to immediately arrest him.
A 22-mm revolver loaded with five bullets was recovered from the suspect.
The suspect is already in custody and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and a gun ban, which is enforced by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the upcoming 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on October 30.
