Senators expressed optimism that the Philippines would gain from President-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House, while also extending their congratulations on his victory in the U.S. presidential election.
Senator Robin Padilla congratulated President-elect Trump, sharing his hopes that the Philippines will benefit from Trump’s leadership.
"Akin din pong pinupuri ang mapayapang proseso ng pagpili ng pinuno sa Estados Unidos," Padilla said in a statement on Thursday.
"It is good to be a witness in this practice of real power: The power of the people, power of their vote, power to choose," he added.
He further stated that voting is the only time an ordinary citizen holds more power than a politician.
Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero echoed this sentiment, stating that he could not yet determine what programs Trump might implement.
However, he noted that the relationship between the Philippines and the United States was positive during Trump’s first term as President.
Umaasa si Escudero na pabor at makikinabang ang bansa sa kanyang pagbabalik bilang pangulo ng United States.
Trump will serve his second term as president, having first held office from 2016 to 2020 before losing to the current President, Joe Biden.
