The Senate is expected to probe the recent viral video of the road rage incident in Quezon City which involved a retired cop who physically assaulted and brandished a gun at a cyclist last August 8.
In a televised interview, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said the Senate needs to come up with solutions to make sure that the viral incident will not happen again to cyclists, motorcyclists, and the general riding public.
He added that the former police officer named Wilfredo Gonzales had committed several violations, including abuse of authority and grave threats.
Due to the incident, the Philippine National Police (PNP) filed an alarm and scandal complaint against Gonzales and revoked the firearm he used to threaten the victim, as well as three more guns in his possession.
Moreover, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) temporarily suspended his driver’s license for 90 days.
As the incident is now under investigation, the victim has consistently refused to file a separate case against the retired policeman.
Meanwhile, Zubiri said that the chamber is eyeing holding its first hearing for the incident on September 5 or 6.
