The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs is willing to restart its probe into the death of late Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, which just ended after five hearings.
According to Senator Ronald dela Rosa on Tuesday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) may be willing to bring the suspects to the committee, stating that the probe will be reopened despite Congress' sine die adjournment on June 2.
This comes after Senator Alan Peter Cayetano spoke out during the plenary session on Monday, urging dela Rosa's committee to resume the investigation with the participation of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights.
Cayetano stated that Jhudiel Rivero filed a counter-affidavit denying his previous evidence to the DOJ, followed by four additional Degamo case witnesses doing the same.
Cayetano's demonstration was reported to the Committees on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs and Justice and Human Rights after a few reactions from colleagues.
Joven Javier, the sixth suspect in the Degamo homicide to retract his statement, denied planning and participating in the crime and being among those who stayed at houses belonging to the family of Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr.
