by Alessandra C. Frianela20 August 2024

Jojo Nones, one of the two independent contractors from GMA Network facing sexual abuse charges, is currently detained in the Senate. Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada has cited him for contempt on account of his false statements during a Senate committee hearing on Monday.

"May affidavit si Atty. Annette na confirming that they were offering financial contribution to a charitable institution of Niño’s choice and he declined," Estrada said during an ambush interview with the press.

"I was asking him, answerable by yes or no, did you offer any financial assistance to any charitable institution?’ Lagi n’yang dinedeny, mayroon nang affidavit," he added.

According to Estrada, Nones has been exposed, yet he continues to lie to the committee.

Estrada mentioned that it is clear from the affidavit submitted by Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes, Senior Vice President of GMA Network, that Nones and his co-accused, Richard Cruz, offered a financial contribution to be given to a charitable institution chosen by Niño Muhlach.

This occurred during GMA's investigation, where Muhlach, Nones, and Cruz were brought face-to-face for a meeting.

Estrada noted that Nones denied all the allegations, prompting the decision to cite him for contempt.

"Lagi silang nagsisinungaling, may drugs pang involved," Estrada said.

Nones also denied the allegation of giving a 500-peso bill folded like a straw and then making Muhlach inhale its contents, which were believed to be drugs.

An executive session was held beforehand to provide actor Sandro Muhlach the opportunity to detail the abuse he experienced.
