Heated debates are expected today, August 6, in the Senate as they formally decide the fate of the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Amid a motion for reconsideration filed by the House Prosecution team, the upper chamber is set to vote on whether it will uphold the Supreme Court's dismissal of the impeachment case.
Despite strong calls from various sectors and other senators, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri stated, according to a report by Raymund Dadpaas, that the Senate is prepared to hear all perspectives before making a decision. However, as long as the Supreme Court has not made a final decision on the motion for reconsideration, the Senate must respect the initial ruling that deemed the impeachment case unconstitutional.

Duterte ally Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa expressed his support for the Supreme Court's decision
“I am very much inclined to support and obey the decision of the Supreme Court, no questions asked,” he said in his online statement.
Additionally, a Senate resolution has been proposed. Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan confirmed that four members from the minority bloc have signed his resolution, which requests the High Court to reconsider its decision.
Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada on the other hand, said that there is no problem with the resolution but doesn't have a plan to sign it. Meanwhile, he also stated that 19 to 20 senators have indicated they are likely to follow the Supreme Court ruling.
