Senate Majority leader Juan Miguel Zubiri thanked Sen. Cynthia Villar on Wednesday, June 1, after she declared that she will no longer seek the Senate Presidency for the 19th Congress.
"A united Senate is a productive one. From the very beginning, I have always wanted to form a supermajority in the Senate," said Zubiri, who aspires to become the next Senate President.
"I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, Ma'am Cynthia Villar for her support, graciousness, and magnanimity in helping me form a super-majority," he added.
Zubiri also thanked the other senators who believe and trust his abilities to lead the Senate.
If he becomes Senate President, the 53-year-old lawmaker vowed to uphold the independence, integrity, dignity, as well as the rules and traditions of the Upper House of Congress.
"Rest assured, all my experiences as a Majority Floor Leader in the 14th, 17th, and 18th Congresses will help me greatly in managing the affairs of the Senate," Zubiri assured.
"Kung mararapatin akong maging Senate President, ang Senado ay patuloy na magiging Senado ng bayan, isang Senado kung saan malaya ang bawat senador na magpahayag ng kanilang sariling pananaw at paniniwala," he added.
