After delivering aid to the residents in Gigaquit and Tubod, the outreach team of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Friday, March 26 visited the towns of Claver and Placer in Surigao del Norte to provide more assistance to flood victims caused by Typhoon Auring.
The team organized relief activities at Barangay Ladgaron, Claver and Brgy. Central, Placer covered courts during which they served meals to a total of 1,857 residents. They also provided each beneficiary with food and medicine packs, medical-grade masks, and face shields while observing health protocols.
Selected beneficiaries received new pairs of shoes, while some of those relying on public transportation were given bicycles for their commuting needs. Some beneficiaries were provided computer tablets so their children can participate in their blended learning activities.
“Kahit anumang problema ang inyong hinaharap—sunog, lindol, baha, pagputok ng bulkan o kahit anong klaseng krisis—handa kaming tumulong at magserbisyo sa inyo sa abot ng aming makakaya. Huwag kayo mawawalan ng pag-asa dahil hindi kayo pababayaan ng gobyerno na palaging nagmamalasakit sa inyo,” Go said in a video message.
In addition, various agencies also participated in the activities as part of an ongoing effort by the national government and its local partners to help the affected communities ‘build back better’ from the impacts of the disaster.
Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided residents with cash assistance to cover other basic needs. Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture distributed seed supplies to encourage families to grow vegetables at home.
Also, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) awarded scholarships to students seeking to develop employable skills. On the other hand, the Departments of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and Trade and Industry (DTI)conducted an assessment of potential beneficiaries seeking alternative employment and livelihood options, respectively.
To ensure their health and safety, Go encouraged all residents to diligently follow the necessary health and safety protocols.
He offered to help any beneficiary with medical and health-related issues and advised them to seek the services of the Malasakit Center at the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City.
