Senator Nancy Binay expressed concern after a now-deleted post on social media went viral showing TV host Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla undergoing a gluta-drip session inside the office of her husband, Senator Robinhood Padilla.
“Nakaka-bother lang dahil yung IV procedure was done inside the Senate premises na walang abiso mula sa clinic, “Binay said.
She is also not sure if the ethics committee can extend its jurisdiction on the incident, since Rodriguez-Padilla is not a member of the Senate.
"I'm not sure if the ethics committee can extend its jurisdiction dito sa nangyaring insidente since hindi naman member ng Senado si Ms. Mariel," the senator said.
She added that the Department of Health (DOH) declared gluta-drip and similar treatments unsafe and banned by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), noting that this was administered outside a clinic or medical facility.
“Yung gluta drip ay nai-declare na mismo ng DOH na unsafe, banned ng FDA, and it was administered outside the clinic without the proper medical advice from a licensed health professional," Binay emphasized.
The senator, who is also the chairperson of the Senate Ethics Committee, reminded public figures that they must be aware of their responsibilities to the public, such as promoting products.
"As public figures, sana aware din tayo sa responsabilidad natin sa publiko. We might be promoting something na ipinagbabawal at iligal, at akala ng mga tao eh okey lang. Isipin din natin may kasamang kapanagutan ang pagiging artista, lalo na kung senador ang asawa mo," Binay said.
Meanwhile, Sen. Padilla on Friday defended his wife by saying that the image has 'no intention of disrespect' as his wife loves to promote good looks and good health.
The incident happened on February 22, when Mariel posted a picture on social media of herself doing a gluta drip inside her husband's Senate office.
The actress immediately deleted her post, but some netizens captured a screenshot, causing her to receive negative comments from the public.
