Senator Christopher “Bong” Go urged both authorities and the public not to squander the positive achievements of the drug war initiated by former President Rodrigo Duterte, particularly in light of attempts to portray it negatively.
The statement follows the investigation being carried out by the House quad-committee regarding the controversial and deadly campaign against illegal drugs.
Go warned against allowing illegal drugs to resurface and drug lords to regain power, stating that if this occurs, corruption and crime will return.
"Alam niyo pagbumalik ang ilegal na droga, babalik ang korupsyon sa gobyerno, babalik ang kriminalidad," Go said during an interview with the media on Monday.
"Ang taong bayan na ang humusga kung nakinabang ba ang Pilipino sa ginawa niyang strong stance against illegal drugs noong panahon niya bilang Pangulo," he added.
The senator emphasized that the previous Administration maintained a high trust rating throughout its term, primarily due to its focus on the campaign against illegal drugs.
Furthermore, throughout Duterte's term, his trust rating remained at 87 percent, compared to other Presidents in the country.
Go previously denied the alleged reward system in the campaign against illegal drugs, following the revelations made by former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) General Manager Royina Garma.
"Wala pong reward system na sinasabi nila ngayon," said Go.
"Masyado pong baseless accusations ito," he added.
During the House quad-committee hearing, Duterte, Senator Go, and Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa were implicated due to their roles in the implementation of the War on Drugs campaign.
