A retired police officer and alleged security escort of Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso was killed after being shot by two still-unidentified suspects riding a motorcycle in Manila early Sunday morning, March 15.
The victim was identified as George Capistrano y Basan, 56, a retired police officer and a resident of #306 Salonga Street, Barangay 134, Balut, Tondo.
According to a report from Manila Police District Police Station 1, the incident occurred at around 12:00 a.m. along Salonga Street corner Buendia Street in Barangay 134, Balut, Tondo.
Police said they immediately responded after receiving a report from a concerned citizen about a shooting incident in the area. Upon arrival, responding officers learned that the victim had already been rushed to Tondo Medical Center for immediate medical treatment.
However, at around 12:35 a.m., the victim was declared dead by the attending physician, Dr. Jericho Liwag.
In a statement, the victim’s wife Andrea Capistrano, 52, said she was inside their house when she heard two gunshots. When she looked outside their home, she saw her husband already lying on the pavement.
Police reported that the suspects were two men riding a motorcycle who immediately fled after carrying out the shooting.
Personnel from the Smokey Mountain Police Community Precinct, led by PCPT Ryan Jay D. Balagtas, have conducted a follow-up operation to determine the identity and whereabouts of the suspects.
The Manila Police District said the investigation is still ongoing as authorities continue to determine the possible motive behind the killing.
