MANILA, Philippines – Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo is heading to Italy on Tuesday to participate in the expanded Group of Seven (G7) Ministerial Meeting slated on November 25-26, 2024.
In a statement from the DFA, it confirmed that Sec. Manalo will represent the Philippines in the said meeting, upon the invitation of Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani.
Italy holds the rotating G7 Presidency this year.
“Secretary Manalo is expected to exchange views on Indo-Pacific regional security with the Foreign Ministers of Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. The European Union is also represented at the G7 meetings,” DFA stated.
DFA also confirmed that Manalo is scheduled to meet senior Italian officials, including the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, “to discuss bilateral cooperation.”
“During this visit, Secretary Manalo is scheduled to meet with Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States,” the DFA stated.
Meetings with senior Italian officials to discuss bilateral cooperation are being arranged, and Manalo is also scheduled to meet with Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Director General Qu Dongyu, attend the launch of the Mirei Exhibit and meet members of the Filipino Community, and deliver a lecture at the Sapienza University of Rome, the DFA added.
The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal forum that brings together Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. The European Union also participates in the Group and is represented at the summits by the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission, according to the G7 Italia 2024 official website.
