Sea marshals have arrested a man who was allegedly a suspect in a bomb threat in Port of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday, Nov. 23.
Based on PCG's report, an unidentified sea passenger reported to Coast Guard sea marshals that someone tried to kill him and was running amok on board.
CG Seaman First Class (SN1) Christian Leden Marquez and CG SN1 Elmer Dacanay, who received the report, immediately acted for the suspect's arrest.
In a video shared by the PCG, Marquez and Dacanay helped the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) duty sea marshal, who had been punched by the suspect, and tried to acquire his service firearm.
The sea marshals successfully took down the suspect after minutes of inhibition.
PCG said the suspect threatened the sea passengers by planting two bombs on board a RoRo vessel.
Coast Guard sea marshals immediately advised the captain of the vessel to disembark all passengers as a precautionary measure.
Members of the Coast Guard K9 Unit-BARMM then conducted paneling on board the Roro vessel.
The bomb threat suspect has been brought to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Bongao Station.
Meanwhile, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Ronnie Gil L. Gavan, applauded the on-duty sea marshals for their action.
"The successful arrest of the bomb threat suspect who ran amok on board proves how professional, competent, and courageous our Coast Guard sea marshals are in fulfilling their mandated functions," he said.
