The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday confirmed that Wilfredo ‘Willy’ Gonzales, the former police officer involved in the viral road rage incident, was fired from his job.
In a media advisory released by SC Public Information Office (PIO), Justice Staff Head Wilhelmina Aileen Mayuga said Gonzales was a conterminous employee of the Office of Justice Ricardo Rosario.
“His employment was immediately terminated on August 27, 2023, upon discovery of the incident,” she said.
Mayuga said Justice Rosario “does not condone any form of violence or abusive behavior.”
A video of Gonzales, who was seen slapping and brandishing a gun at a cyclist, surfaced and went viral on social media on Sunday, August 27.
Based on the video, the ex-cop fumed after the cyclists had bumped into his vehicle while they were near Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City.
Following the incident, the Philippine National Police (PNP) canceled the gun permit of Gonzales and confiscated the three caliber 45s registered under his name.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) preventively suspended the former cop’s driver’s license for 90 days. The agency first imposed a show cause order against Gonzales to give him a chance to explain why his driver’s license should not be revoked.
Gonzales is currently facing an alarm and scandal case as filed by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Tuesday.
