A male lawyer has been disbarred for repeated acts of infidelity, the Supreme Court (SC) announced on Wednesday, August 14.
"In a Per Curiam Decision, the Supreme Court En Banc has disbarred a lawyer for grossly immoral conduct, in violation of the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA)," the SC stated.
The SC emphasized that "under Canon VI, Section 33(f) of the CPRA, grossly immoral conduct, a serious offense, is an act that is so corrupt or false as to constitute a criminal act."
The decision was made following the lawyer's admission to having engaged in three extramarital affairs while married.
Additionally, the lawyer admitted to entering into a bigamous marriage with another woman, with whom he fathered two children.
The lawyer also confessed to showing pornographic materials to his house helper and secretary and engaging in sexually explicit conversations with them.
As a result, the lawyer was disbarred for the first two offenses. He was initially sentenced to suspension for the last two offenses, but since disbarment can only be imposed once, the lawyer was fined PHP 400,000 instead.
