The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday affirmed the ruling of a court that Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation where the Bonifacio Global City Complex or BGC belongs to Taguig City, ending the years-long land dispute.
In a press briefer, SC Public Information Office (PIO) said the higher court affirmed the final decision of the SC third division declaring that the BGC Complex is under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.
"The Court likewise denied the Makati City's omnibus motion to refer the instant case to the court en banc, as the Court En Banc is not an Appellate Court to which decisions or resolutions of Division may be appealed," it said.
The SC will no longer entertain any pleadings, motions, letters, or other communications, according to the SC PIO.
The higher court also reinstated the Pasig Regional Trial Court's (RTC) July 8, 2011 decision which stated that parcels 3 and 4 of Fort Bonifacio "is confirmed to be part of the territory of the City of Taguig."
Meanwhile, in a statement, the local government unit (LGU) of Taguig City welcomed SC's ruling, saying that the "end of this legal dispute marks the beginning of a new chapter for Taguig and its people."
"Our Victory in the courts of law is not merely a vindication of our rights. It is equally a command for us to make good use of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to expand our brand of committed public service to new constituents," it added.
The Taguig City government vowed that it will work hard to introduce new programs and projects in a bid to expand and improve services for its people.
It likewise said that it will work hand-in-hand with its good neighbor, Makati City "in assuming new responsibilities, conscious that the benefits of this monumental legal victory should redound to all the barangays of Taguig and to all sectors of the city."
