The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) welcomed former Ateneo Lady Eagles head coach Erika Dy as the new executive director of the association.
SBP said that Dy will oversee the strategic planning of the federation and lead the implementation of its programs in line with the continued push of FIBA to grow the sport of basketball in the Philippines.
"We’re very excited to work with Erika as she brings new energy into the federation," SBP President Al Panlilio said on Tuesday, January 9.
"With her experience as a basketball player, a coach, a sports advocate, and one of the primary implementers of the World Cup, we know she is capable of broadening the imprint of the SBP," Panlilio added.
Prior to her appointment, Dy worked with the SBP as the deputy event director of the 2023 FIBA World Cup, co-hosted by the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.
Dy also worked as licensing committee chair and managing director of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines, as well as assistant athletic director of the Ateneo De Manila University.
SBP also mentioned that Dy holds a Master's Degree in Sports Management from Columbia University, and is a California-licensed attorney, which resulted to her appointment as FIBA Legal Commission chair in October 2023.
"It’s an honor to be entrusted by the SBP with this role," Dy said.
"Basketball has been a huge part of my life and I’m thankful to be given the opportunity to give back to the sport and the basketball community," she added.
SBP said that Dy wasted no time and already started to work alongside Head of Coaches’ Academy Jong Uichico, Grassroots Program Director Norman Black, 3×3 Program Director Eric Altamirano, and Institutional Support Director, Anton Gonzales.
