Presumptive vice president Sara Duterte on Thursday welcomed her appointment as the next Education Secretary, stressing that the nation needs a new generation of patriotic Filipinos.
"I wish to express my gratitude to presumptive President Bongbong Marcos for the confidence in me to lead the Department of Education," said Duterte in a statement.
According to the outgoing Davao mayor, she spoke with Marcos Jr. about how she could help the country.
"It was decided that I would work on producing skilled learners with the mindset to realize their full potential as individuals," she said.
"Our country needs a future generation of patriotic Filipinos that advocate peace and discipline in their respective communities."
Meanwhile, Duterte noted that she was previously in talks with Marcos Jr. in leading the Department of National Defense (DND).
With her eventual appointment as education secretary, however, Duterte immediately stamped out allegations regarding her loyalty.
"Seeing the way things are at the moment, I expect that people who want to see the new administration to fail will fabricate intrigues about my loyalty and the DND position to break the UniTeam," she said.
"The Uniteam wants a stable Philippines and the most harmonious administration possible."
