While Vice President Sara Duterte respects the position of President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on the possibility of the country rejoining the International Criminal Court (ICC), she maintained her stance against cooperating with the courthouse.

"We should respect the position of the president being the chief architect of foreign policy so ‘yun dapat ang position nating lahat," Duterte said in a chance interview with reporters at the sidelines of a National Children’s Month event.

However, Duterte said she would persuade the Department of Justice (DOJ) not to cooperate with the ICC in its investigations into the country's war on drugs campaign during the term of her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte.

"We will continue to reach out to the Department of Justice regarding our position on this matter, and we will lay down the legal bases of our position with the DOJ,” the Education Secretary noted.

Last week, President Marcos said that returning to the fold of the ICC was "under study." At that time, Duterte urged the lower house to respect the President’s position on ICC's investigation into the bloody anti-narcotics campaign of her father.

In July this year, the Chief Executive uttered that his government “will not cooperate” with the International chamber “in any way, shape or form.”
