Former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) board member Sandra Cam got emotional as she confessed her involvement in the imprisonment of former senator Leila De Lima.
"The realization that I was used as a tool for imprisonment of Senator Leila De Lima. Nakita ko at naranasan ko naman ang sakit at paghihirap ng kanyang pagkakakulong," she said in the press conference on Wednesday, Jan 18.
This was two days after the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 42 acquitted Cam and her son Marco Cam on charges of killing Masbate town Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III in 2019.
The former PCSO officer expressed apologies and regret after accusing the former senator of being involved in the illegal drug trade during her term as the Justice secretary.
"At humingi na ako ng kapatawaran at pagsisisi sa aking pagkakamali. And the restoration of our friendship is the most important than politics," Cam added.
Her experience inside the prison gave her the courage to speak up.
"At ang buhay na naranasan ko sa kulungan ay ang lakas na aking kinakapitan upang makamit ko ang hustisya at lalo kung magtutulungan ang mga kapareho kong whistleblowers," she said.
Meanwhile, four witnesses have already retracted their allegations of Sen. De Lima's association with the illegal drug trade.
