Actress and comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto warned her friends and followers against scammers using her name to solicit “bail” money.
On her Facebook page, Quinto posted screenshots of two separate incidents where con artists leveraged her legal battle as a pretext to borrow large sums of cash from people the actress knew.
On the first occasion, a fraudster requested to borrow ₱45,000 to cover an insufficiency in bail money. In the second, ₱55,000 was asked of Quinto’s contact to pay off her lawyer’s fees and bail as well.
“Wala po akong kailangan financial support kahit kanino (I don’t need financial support from anyone),” the star clarified in the earlier post. “And I’m not asking money.”
“Please share na never ako nag ask ng pera pang bail kahit kanino … Paki share guys,” she urged her social media followers.
(Please share that I have never asked for money for bail from anyone. Please share that, guys.)
She warned the scammers through her posts that she had already reported them to her lawyer and the police.
Quinto was released on bail on Thursday, January 9. She posted ₱1.7 million in bail for 14 counts of Securities Regulation Code violations.
