The Department of Defense (DND) announced on Monday that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed Lieutenant General Roy Galido, the chief of the Western Mindanao Command, has been appointed as the 66th commanding general of the Philippine Army.

This appointment comes as Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. assumes the position of Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), replacing Galido in his previous role.

The DND praised Galido's extensive experience and exceptional leadership, which resulted in significant victories against lawless elements, particularly in the Mindanao region.

"His extensive experience and well-honed skills resulted in the significant victories of his Command against lawless elements, especially in Mindanao," said the DND.

He played a key role in leading campaigns against counterterrorism groups in provinces like South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Maguindanao.

With Galido now leading the Philippine Army, the DND expressed confidence in the Army's ability to pursue the strategic direction set by the Commander-in-Chief, ensuring the country's stability amidst the evolving security landscape.

"With LtGen Galido at the helm, the Philippine Army will undoubtedly and excellently pursue the strategic path set by the Commander-in-Chief in pursuit of the country's stability amid the changing security landscape," it said.

Previously, Galido also held a significant position in the AFP as the head of the Western Mindanao Command.
