Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco clinched a quarterfinals spot in the women’s single sculls after landing the top spot in the Heat 1 of the repechage in the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium on Sunday (Manila time).
The 26-year old and first female rower from the country to compete in an Olympic game has made history following her win that led to her advancement in the quarterfinals.
Delgaco was in control from start to finish and dominated over four other competitors hailing from Vietnam, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Togo clocking 7:55 in the round.
Joining her in the quarterfinals is Thi Hue Pham of Vietnam who came in second, finishing the race with a time of 8 minutes.
Only the top 2 of each repechage heat will advance to the quarterfinals, eventually joining the qualifier's from Saturday's race.
It was a sweet rcomeback for Delgaco after finishing fourth in the women’s single scull heat on Saturday with a time of 7:56.26.
She is set to return for quaterfinals on July 30.
