House Speaker Martin Romualdez thanked the consortium led by San Miguel Corporation Chief Executive Officer Ramon Ang for allocating a bigger space to house the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) lounge in Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Romualdez said that additional space would accomadate around 200 departing OFWs.
"Mas malaki pa ang gustong ibigay, naliliitan sila sa unang plano sa request. So talagang nakikita natin na mas magiging maayos at maganda ang operation dito sa NAIA," he said.
The House Speaker assured that the lounge would have amenities to ensure that OFWs will have a comfortable place to stay before leaving the Philippines to work abroad.
"We are also grateful to the management here for coordinating this request to make sure that our migrant workers who are traveling through the NAIA terminals are accommodated as VIPs should be," Romualdez said.
"Gusto natin na may maayos na lounge area na comfortable at dun sila pwede kumain at kumuha ng refreshements bago sila lumipad sa ibayong dagat at magtratrabaho," he added.
Romualdez said the new OFW lounge may open by the end of June.
The House Speaker inspected the construction of the OFW lounge in NAIA Terminal 3 on Tuesday, April 23, alongside House Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales and House Majority Leader Manuel Jose "Mannix" Dalipe.
The consortium led by the SMC bagged the Php 170.6 billion contract for the rehabilitation and operation of NAIA last February.
