House Speaker Martin Romualdez lauded President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Marawi recovery initiative through the creation of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development (OPAMRD).
The initiative is under Executive Order (EO) No. 78, and ensures an efficient, effective, and timely implementation of the programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) that also falls under the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (CRRP).
Romualdez said that the President's efforts “reflect the administration's deep commitment to addressing the long-standing issues that have delayed the full recovery of Marawi City and its surrounding communities.”
OPAMRD ensures that Marawi's recovery and rehabilitation efforts are sustained, further streamlined, and accelerated.
“It is a demonstration of President Marcos’ sincerity in delivering on his promise to the people of Marawi and the entire Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM),” Romualdez said.
To support Marcos’ efforts, the House also initiated measures to aid the program. Among the actions to be taken are:
- Annual allocations for the CRRP, which is focused on housing, infrastructure, and livelihood projects for displaced families.
- Increased Oversight on Rehabilitation Funds
- Support for BARMM’s Local Development Projects to harmonize national and regional efforts in infrastructure development, social services, and peacebuilding programs
Despite the progress, Romualdez noted that challenges remain, including delays in some of the projects’ completion.
“The people of Marawi deserve a rehabilitation process that is efficient, transparent and inclusive. By creating OPAMRD, President Marcos has ensured that these objectives are prioritized,” Romualdez stressed.
Moreover, the House Speaker highlighted the importance of involving the people of Marawi, so that all their needs are met.
“The rehabilitation of Marawi is not just about rebuilding structures - it is about restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity to our fellow Filipinos. Let us work together to ensure that Marawi’s story becomes one of resilience and triumph over adversity,” Romualdez said.
