The House of Representatives is on the right side of history in the ongoing investigation of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war campaign, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said on Monday.
Romualdez warned those trying to derail the chamber’s inquiry that they would not succeed, as they will eventually unearth the truth. He vowed that the Quad Committee would continue its pursuit of justice.
“Dahil unti-unti na nating nakikita ang liwanag at katotohanan, asahan natin na lalo pang titindi ang pag-atake sa ating institusyon. Subalit hindi tayo matitinag. Hindi tayo papayag na muling bumalik ang panahon ng kadiliman at kasamaan,” Romualdez said.
He reiterated that the House is on the “right side of history”, adding that they will stand their ground, and will not yield to pressure and intimidation.
With that, Romualdez reminded the mega panel to work without fear or favor, as they must uncover the truth. The Quad Comm and their so-called young guns have been subject to public ridicule amid the ongoing probe into the extrajudicial killings and POGOs.
“The Quad Committee represents not just a legislative effort but embodies our shared commitment to truth, justice, and accountability,” Romualdez said.
“Through their outstanding ability to elicit truth from even the most reticent witnesses and sources, combined with significant information gathered from confidential channels, the Quad Committee members have demonstrated a burning resolve to identify and remedy deficiencies in our laws,” he added.
In the previous month, the Quad Comm panel filed two House bills; the Anti-Extrajudicial Killing Act and the Anti-Offshore Gaming Operations Act. The two bills seek to hold those involved in the said crimes accountable, ensuring that they face appropriate penalties.
“Today, we stand on the right side of history, not just as witnesses but as architects of change. The people are watching; history is watching. Let us not falter, for we hold the power to shape the destiny of our nation,” Romualdez said.
