House Speaker Martin Romualdez welcomed the latest Philippines’ unemployment rate declining to 3.8% in February, compared to 4.3% in January, according to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
According to the PSA, approximately 1.94 million Filipinos were unemployed in February, a decline from 2.16 million the previous month—marking the lowest unemployment figure in three months.
“This improvement in our labor market conditions reflects the growing strength and stability of our economy. It is proof that our policies are prudent and uplifting our people’s lives,” he said.
Romualdez called the improvement a “clear and positive sign” that the country’s economy is gaining strength.
He credited President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s administration for its strategic approach to economic development.
“Our President’s clear vision for economic growth is bearing fruit,” he said. “We, in Congress, are ready to provide necessary legislative support aimed at strengthening investments to create more jobs and skills training to enable our workers to adapt and thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape,” he continued.
He also praised the increase in the employment rate, which rose to 96.2% in February from 95.7% the month before—equivalent to 49.15 million Filipinos currently employed.
“With 49.15 million Filipinos now employed, we are seeing progress not just in numbers but in the lives of ordinary citizens,” he added.
Additionally, he also pointed out that the underemployment rate saw a notable drop, from 13.3% in January to 10.1% in February, equivalent to 4.96 million underemployed workers.
The house leader reiterated Congress’ support for the administration’s initiatives, pledging to push for legislation that enhances investments, expands job opportunities, and strengthens workforce skills development.
“Fewer Filipinos now feel the need to look for additional work. This means better quality jobs and improved working conditions are becoming more accessible,” Romualdez said.
Despite the gains, the House Speaker stressed the need to maintain economic momentum to ensure inclusive growth.
“Let us ensure that no Filipino is left behind in this journey. We will continue to champion policies that generate jobs, uplift industries, and secure a brighter future for every Filipino family,” he concluded.
