Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña, the common-law wife of former President Rodrigo Duterte, firmly denied the alleged cancellation of Duterte's Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for the Davao City mayoral race in the 2025 midterm elections.
According to a report by RH Henry Uri, Avanceña simply responded “nope” when asked about the claims.
Furthermore, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go echoed that he has no information regarding such claims and considers the reports about Duterte's COC cancellation as a form of fake news.
He also stated that the former president remains in Davao City, and his camp is refuting the circulating reports.
Moreover, former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea stated in a text message that the allegation is fake news.
"Fake News iyan. He is not running for senator!" Medialdea said.
A source earlier informed DZRH News that Duterte is set to file his COC for a Senate seat today, October 8.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Garcia stated that a candidate cannot file for two positions simultaneously.
Due to this policy, the former president will need to withdraw his candidacy for mayor if he decides to run for the Senate.
