Former Vice President Leni Robredo described her meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as showing respect to his position in the Philippines.
Robredo met and shook hands with Marcos on Thursday, October 17, during the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Coliseum.
"Sa akin naman ay hindi issue iyon. In fact, para sa akin, nagbibigay respeto ka sa posisyon," Robredo said in an exclusive interview with DZRH reporter Ruel Saldico.
"Ang tingin ko ay tama lang naman, lalo na at bisita natin sa Bicol Region," added Robredo, who faced President Marcos in two different elections.
Robredo first went against President Marcos during the 2016 Vice Presidential elections, which she won.
During the 2022 Presidential race, Robredo once again saw herself against President Marcos but, this time, she lost against the latter.
Senate President Francis Escudero admitted that he invited the former Vice President to welcome President Marcos during his visit to Sorsogon.
Robredo said that she did not think twice in accepting the invitation of Escudero.
"Ang problema lang ay hindi ako nakapag-stay ng matagal kasi may hinahabol ako (in Naga City) pero, otherwise, okay lang naman sa akin," Robredo said.
Escudero hopes that the recent meeting between President Marcos and Robredo will heal any misunderstanding between the two of them.
