Former vice president Leni Robredo on Tuesday called for justice on the brutal killing of radio personality Percival Mabasa, known to his followers as Percy Lapid, by still unidentified suspects in a subdivision in Las Piñas City.
Lapid was supposed to do his online broadcast inside the Santa Cecilia Village in BF Resort when the suspects, one boarding a motorcycle and the other in a white Toyota Fortuner, shot him.
"Nakikiramay ako sa lahat ng nagmamahal kay Percy Lapid. Malaking kawalan ang kaniyang boses, tapang, at pananaw sa panahong bumabangga tayo sa tahasang panlilinlang sa taumbayan," Robredo said in a post.
[I extend my sympathy to the loved ones of Percy Lapid. His voice, courage, and beliefs are a huge loss at a time when the people are blatantly being deceived.]
Lapid hosts the commentary radio show “Lapid Fire" on DWBL 1242 wherein he gives his opinion about the pressing issues in the country, including criticisms of some of the officials of the current administration and the previous administration.
Robredo also called for swift justice for the broadcaster’s death, as well as the killings of other journalists.
"Hindi dapat palampasin ang pagpaslang kay Ka Percy; dapat agad maihain ang hustisya sa pangyayaring ito—at sa marami pang insidente ng pagpatay sa ating mga journalists," she continued.
[We should not allow this killing of Ka Percy to pass; we should seek justice for this event—and for the many other incidents of killing our journalists.]
"Sa isang lipunang tunay na malaya, dapat walang puwang sa karahasan at panggigipit sa ating mamamahayag," she added.
[In a truly free society, there should be no space for violence and oppression of our journalists.]
