Local government units (LGUs) have been monitoring schools and pupils following an increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
During the Laging Handa press briefing, Quirino Gov. and League of Provinces of the Philippines chairman Dax Cua said that they will be monitoring closely, and the LGUs will monitor students and schools as classes are considered superspreader venues.
He stated that if a student contracts COVID, the virus might spread to other members of the family. On January 30, 2020, the UN health agency labeled the problem a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).
That was just a few weeks after the mystery new viral disease was discovered in China, and there had been fewer than 100 cases and no deaths reported outside of the country.
Cua added that they will be working closely with the Department of Education and the Department of Health, giving assurance that hospitals are ready for the increasing admissions due to COVID-19.
According to OCTA Research Fellow Guido David, the positive rate in Metro Manila is likely to reach 25%.
Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu campus stated that its memorandum on the transition to online sessions from May 4 to May 11 was solely due to "probable" rather than confirmed COVID cases.
