Senator Robinhood 'Robin' Padilla on Tuesday, August 8, proposed that the government will uphold mandatory military training for civilians.
This came after the incident wherein the China Coast Guard performed dangerous maneuvers and water bombing, blocking the Philippine Coast Guard from going to BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea on August 5.
The Senator mentioned Ukraine as an example, as it uses civilians to protect its country against Russia.
"Ang malaking kwestyon kailangan po ba natin uubilgahin ang ating mga kababayan na pumasok na dito sa military service kasi puro tayo reklamo," he said.
