The Pasig River ferry service could serve as an alternative transport system in Metro Manila, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
MMDA chair Romando Artes said the agency would add more ferry boats following the opening of ferry stations in Intramuros, Bridgetowne in Pasig, Marikina City, and the rehabilitation of PUP station in Sta. Mesa to accommodate more passengers.
Artes said that MMDA’s data showed that 254,000 boarded the ferry in 2023 and the ridership has been racking up numbers this year.
In a report by RH Edniel Parrosa, the Pasig River ferry is free for the time being and is open from 6 am to 6 pm.
Parrosa added that the ferry service could remedy the ebbing transport system in the metro after the traffic index stated that Metro Manila is one of the slowest metropolises when it comes to traffic.
