The new series "West Philippine Sea Defenders" delivers more than just an engaging cinematic experience; it also serves as a powerful advocacy.
Viewers are expected to witness the factual and current situation in the country, all presented in a distinctive and compelling manner.
This captivating tale is set in a near-future Philippines, where the nation grapples with the daunting challenge of being bullied by the powerful nuclear superpower known as the Kingdom of Manchuria.
As tensions rise, a hidden group of skilled spies and cybersecurity experts moves silently in the shadows, committed to protecting their nation’s interests.
"West Philippine Sea Defenders" is based on the original concept by Dr. Michael Raymond Aragon, the Chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas.
According to Aragon, the concept of righteousness inspired him to create the series. He believes that what is happening in the Philippines is unjust, and this series aims to stand up for what is right.
"Atin ang West Philippine Sea. We should unite and we should rally behind a correct foreign policy," Aragon said during the series' premiere night on Sunday.
"Napakaganda ang mamatay para sa bayan. Bihira mangyari iyan. So I think, we challenge everybody na kailangan nila to reach the level na kaya nilang ibigay 'yung buhay nila para sa Pilipinas," he added.
Aragon further stated that they envision the series as a part of information dissemination, providing accurate news to the audience.
"We are going to do, together with DZRH, we would like to make our people laugh, we would like to make our people cry, we would like to make our people fall in love through the WPS," said Aragon.
"Then habang araw-araw pinapanood nila tayo, then we will tell the Filipino narrative of what is the truth and what is the fight of the country at West Philippine Sea," he added.
Aragon hinted at the possible entry of "West Philippine Sea Defenders: The Movie" as an official entry in next year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Actress and "WPS Defenders" star Daiana Menezes clarified that the series is not political and does not aim to take sides. Instead, it invites everyone to come together to debunk the fake news that is spreading.
Furthermore, Ali Forbes describes the series as action-packed. She will take on the role of a defender as well as an Artificial Intelligence (AI).
"Motivation is the technology na mayroon tayo right now kasi we want this series na talagang nakakarelate 'yung younger generations," Forbes said.
The star-studded series showcases the talents of AJ Raval, Aljur Abrenica, Jeric Raval, Daiana Menezes, Ali Forbes, Ayanna Misola, and other promising stars.
The action-packed series will air on DZRH TV starting November 5, every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 11 PM to 12 AM.
