Newly-appointed Department of Social Worker and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian has resigned as Representative of the 1st District of Valenzuela City.
In his resignation dated February 1 and addressed to House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Gatchalian said he also stepped down as chairman of the committee on local government.
"It was an honor and privilege to have served as a member of the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress, and as chairman of the committee on local government under your able leadership," the lawmaker said.

However, Gatchalian did not elaborate on the reason behind his sudden resignation.
"I look forward to continuing to work with you and our other colleagues for the development of our beloved nation," he said.
The said resignation was effective on January 31, 2023.
On February 1, President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. appointed Valenzuela City Representative Rex Gatchalian as the new DSWD chief, replacing Erwin Tulfo.
