Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera’s “Rewind” broke records after earning over P900 million at the domestic box office, surpassing “Hello, Love, Goodbye” as the highest grossing film of all time.
“We at Star Cinema knew that there was no other option but the two of them, because we couldn’t see how other actors could pull off the script,” Kriz Gazmen, Head of Star Cinema, said in a Deadline report.
He added that TikTok and Facebook helped in catapulting the film’s success.
“We have seen so many people posting videos of them crying after watching the film. This led to a lot of people being so curious about the film, and they’d love to be part of the conversation. We definitely benefited from strong word-of-mouth,” Gazmin said.
“Rewind” follows the marriage of Mary and John whose lives get tangled, leading to a strained relationship between them. Mary suffers a tragic accident, sending John into a spiral until he gets a proposition that allows him to rewind time and save the woman he loves.
The blockbuster film premiered on Dec. 25 after being one of the 10 entries for the 49th Metro Manila Film Festival.
