President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has named Thompson Lantion, the secretary general of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, as the new chairman of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), Malacañang announced on Tuesday.
According to Presidential Communications Secretary Cesar Chavez, Lantion took his oath of office before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Monday afternoon.
Lantion, a retired police general, succeeds former Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, who has decided to step down and "move into private life."
In a statement, Lorenzana, who is also a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1969 like Lantion, congratulated his successor.
"Given his vast experience in government and proven leadership skills, I am confident that Chairman Lantion will not only continue but possibly exceed the developments we have achieved at BCDA," Lorenzana said.
He also expressed his gratitude to President Marcos for the trust placed in him during his time as BCDA head, stating, "It was an honor to lead this critical agency and contribute to the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)."
Lorenzana thanked the BCDA Board of Directors, staff, and private sector partners for their dedication, support, and collaboration throughout his leadership. He also expressed pride in the progress achieved during his tenure.
"As I transition into private life, I will still be available to assist the government in any way possible," Lorenzana added.
