The Department of Health (DOH) disclosed that 35 individuals from the local community, who had been forced to evacuate due to the unrest of Mayon Volcano, encountered respiratory difficulties.

"As of June 13, there are reported 35 cases presenting with respiratory problems such as cough, colds and sore throat at the evacuation centers," the DOH said on Wednesday.

However, not all of these cases can be directly attributed to the harmful impact of sulfur dioxide and volcanic ashfall.

According to the DOH's statement, there have been 35 reported instances of respiratory issues, such as cough, colds, and sore throat, at the evacuation centers as of June 13.

To reassure the public, the DOH expressed their commitment to being actively present on-site and continuously monitoring the well-being of the affected population.

As reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, over 14,000 residents have sought refuge in evacuation centers.

In the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) observed 7 volcanic earthquakes and 309 rockfall incidents at Mayon Volcano.

This figure represents a slight increase compared to the previous day, which recorded only 1 volcanic earthquake and 221 rockfall events.
