Cavite Rep. Crispin "Boying" Remulla has been tapped by presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. as the next justice secretary.
This was confirmed by Remulla himself on a Zoom call with reporters on Monday.
According to the re-electionist, he has accepted the offer from the presumptive president, saying it is an honor for a lawyer like him.
"I have accepted it. It's an honor," he said during a virtual briefing. "It's a very rare opportunity given to lawyers like us."
Remulla will be replacing current Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, who will be departing his post after the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to the incoming secretary, he has yet to speak with Guevarra on the appointment, but he said a briefing is "being scheduled."
Remulla was recently re-elected as the representative of Cavite's seventh district. The official said a special election might be held there once he leaves to assume his post as next Justice secretary.
The local official was a controversial figure during the campaign season of the 2022 elections after he accused the participants of Vice President Leni Robredo's Cavite grand rally of being paid P500 each to attend.
The organizers of Robredo's grand rally have since categorically denied the allegation.
