by Mhillen Nicole Borja07 February 2023

The deportation of two of the four high-profile Japanese fugitives was cleared by the Pasay Regional Trial Court, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed on Monday.

On February 7, Imamura Kiyoto and Fujita Toshiya took their flight back to Japan to face investigation for alleged involvement in break-ins in Japan while detained at a Manila immigration facility using an encrypted messaging app.

The two left are other fugitives Watanabe Yuki, who is believed to be 'Luffy' the mastermind, and Saito Tomonobu, who are expected to be deported on Wednesday, Feb 8.

According to Remulla, the four Japanese nationals were held in immigration detention in Manila.

Charges including violation of the Violence against Women and Children Act were paved by the DOJ in order to bring the fugitives back to Japan as it keeps them from being deported.
