The National Telecommunications Communications (NTC) had reached over 100 million registered mobile phone subscriber identification modules as of July 13, days before the extended SIM registration passes.

Data from the NTC’s website showed that a total of 103,101,99 SIMs have been registered, equivalent to 61.36 percent out of 168,016, 400 subscribers.

Broken down, the 103.101 million registered SIMs are composed of the following mobile networks:

  • Smart subscribers: 48.798 million registered or 73.60% out of 66.304 million subscribers.
  • Globe subscribers: 47.025 million registered or 54.21% out of 86.746 million subscribers.
  • DITO Telecommunity subscribers: 7.278 million registered or 48.64% out of 14.964 million subscribers.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has been actively promoting awareness of the SIM Card Registration Act and encouraging people to register their SIM cards.

The DICT has also been collaborating with telecommunications companies to streamline and simplify the registration process, a significant step toward making the Philippines safer and more secure is the SIM Card Registration Act.

According to NTC, mobile subscribers can protect themselves against fraud and other crimes by registering their SIM cards. They can also contribute to preventing the unlawful usage of their phones.

In April, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. approved a 90-day extension of the SIM registration period until July 25 from the original deadline of April 26.

The implementing rules and regulations of the SIM Card Registration Act took effect on December 27, 2022, after the measure was signed into law by Marcos in October last year.
