Seulgi of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet has successfully debuted as a soloist!
On Tuesday, the 28-year-old singer dropped her much-awaited first mini album "28 Reasons" along with the music video for the title track of the same name.
"28 Reasons” is a pop dance track with groovy and heavy bass sounds and whistle effects.
The dark and eerie music video started off with Seulgi waking up in an empty field before it transitions to a heavy bass tone along with choreography.
"28 reasons that ruined you, you don't have to know I have bad intentions. You know all 28 reasons to run away so why are you leaning on me again?" the lyrics in the chorus translates.
As of posting, the music video has now over 3.2 million views on YouTube.
Following the release of her solo album, Seulgi also set new career records as "28 Reasons" becomes the album released in 2022 by a female K-pop soloist that sold the most copies in just the first day.
She reportedly recorded a total of 134,682 album copies sold, becoming the fourth best-selling album by a female Korean solo artist in Hanteo Chart's first day sales history.
Aside from that, "28 Reasons" also debuted on the iTunes Album Chart at No. 3, and peaked at No. 1 on October 4 local time. The album also entered the chart in more than 14 other countries and regions, including the United States, Brazil, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and more.
Seulgi is the third member of Red Velvet that officially debuted as a soloist following Wendy and Joy, who both released solo albums in 2021.
Red Velvet last visited the Philippines in July for the concert, “Be You: The World Will Adjust.”
Their latest album, The Reve Festival 2022 – Feel My Rhythm, was released in March.
