The radio challenge being conducted by the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG) in the West Philippine Sea (WPS) could be considered a "form of harassment," according to Atin Ito co-convenor and Akbayan president Rafaela David.
"Para sa atin yung radio challenge ay form of harrassmaent na kasi parang umaasa silang sila yung nagpapatrol rito pero alam naman natin na ito ay hindi totoo dahil ito ating EEZ. Ang West Philippine Sea ay atin," David said.
David's statement comes following the alarming presence of the CCG vessels during the second-day civilian mission of Atin Ito in the West Philippine Sea.
According to David, one of the most impressive is the bold challenge of the Philippine Coast Guard to the CCG to inform them that they are already in the waters of the Philippines and that it belongs to the Filipinos.
Three CCG vessels have so far been spotted at the Philippines' Scarborough Shoal or Bajo de Masinloc, waters that are inside the country's exclusive economic zone.
