Musician, producer, and American entertainment industry mogul, Quincy Jones, passed away on Sunday night at age 91, his publicist and family confirmed.
According to Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, the music titan peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 3, surrounded by his family. His family also released a statement on his passing, saying that there will never be another like him.
"Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing. And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him," Jones’ family said in a statement.
Jones is most known for his immense influence and impact on music. From bebop, jazz, rhythm-and-blues, and classical orchestra, Jones dabbled in each and has been responsible for catapulting famous musicians into the industry.
The 28-time Grammy winner has worked with Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, and several others in making and producing music. The music producer is most known for producing Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Off the Wall, and Bad in the 1980s—which served as his path to stardom.
Jones’ extensive career was not limited to music, as he also had major success with the 1990 sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air starring Will Smith. The show was released through Jones’ TV and Film Production Company.
Born in Chicago on March 14, 1933, Jones’ introduction to music was first influenced by his neighbor’s piano playing and his mother’s singing in his childhood home at age 7.
He is survived by his seven children; Rashida Jones, Kidada Jones, Kenya Kinski-Jones, Quincy Jones III, Jolie Jones Levine, Martina Jones, and Rachel Jones.
